About

I am a research writing and communication editor that has worked in the field for 10 years. I am based at the University of Cape Town (UCT) South Africa. I have gone through different stages in the editing career over these years. I worked during my PhD/doctoral study at UCT as a partime academic writing consultant at the Faculty of Health Sciences (FHS) Writing lab. On completion of my PhD study and the end of a 4-year stint at the FHS Writing Lab, I started an indpendent career as a freelance editor. This was driven by discovery of my passion for transforming rigorous research and non-research piece into simple, easy to read communication. In between my passion, I have been involved in the Writing for Postgraduate Completion (WfPC) programme hosted by the UCT's Language Development Group in the Academic development Programme. The aim of the programme is to support and mentor postgraduate students - doctoral, masters, diploma and honours, through the writing process and ensure completion of thesis and dissertation requirement of their postgraduate programme. In this supporting and mentoring role which I have done for 4 years now, I have reviewed and edited various forms of research writing genre from different academic disciplines. Therefore, I have gained substantial skills in editing. My freelance editing services has also exposed me to review and edit of non-research written piece like policy briefs, advert poster, editorial piece for articles
